Poaching has increased in the last decade, particularly with elephants and rhinoceroses. Current levels of poaching of elephants and rhinoceroses will lead to their extinction in the next 10 years.


One of our collaborators for this project is a non-governmental organization (NGO) called AirShepherd. AirShepherd flies UAVs in Africa equipped with a thermal infrared camera to identify and intercept poachers before they can harm wildlife.

Machine Learning Research

We are using machine learning techniques for predictive analytics, to predict poacher activity before they strike, or to track wildlife movement. To that end, we are working with neural networks (CNN) and other techniques. We continue to be interested in recruiting students to join us in this project.
